Additional Optional Equipment
for Royalex and Composite Canoes
Many of the items shown here are also included in the "Accessories Section" of this website. The products are the same but most prices are slightly higher here since they include factory installation. Also, the prices for yokes here include mounting hardware (if any) while if you order certain yokes separately you must also order hardware.
Ash Yoke for Tandem Canoes A durable and attractive, satin-finish yoke suitable as-is for occasional, short portaging. To improve its comfort and utility, add yoke pads.
This yoke is standard on tandem canoes.
This yoke can be mounted to be permanent or removable. To use it on a tandem that also has an added seat in the center, the yoke must be removable because a fixed yoke would interfere with the center seat.
Bolt-on, Sling-type, Sliding Yoke Pads A big improvement over a plain yoke. These pads combine the strength of a bolt-on mounting with easy side-to-side adjustment by loosening the bolt. The sling-like design adapts to any shoulder comfortably.
Laminated Yoke for Tandem Canoes This contoured yoke is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship made from seven laminations of wood. It will outlast any yoke we know of. The comfortable pads are secured with wing-nuts. Alternate mounting holes are provided to adjust the pads from side-to-side. Remove pads easily when not needed to avoid cluttering the appearance of your canoe.
Removable Yokes for Solo Canoes To portage a solo canoe, the yoke must go where the seat is, so it can't mount permanently. It must be removable, and it must raise the hull so the seat clears your head with the canoe on your shoulders. Formerly, to mount and remove a solo yoke was bothersome, but these ingenious new designs go on and come off in seconds without tools. The yoke clamps onto the seat frame. No mounting hardware is used -- leverage alone keeps these light-but-sturdy aluminum yokes firmly in place while in use.
In addition to convenience, these yokes also deliver excellent utility. The sling-type yoke pads conform comfortably to your shoulders, and the pads can adjust quickly from side-to-side to suit your body size. No other solo yokes match the useful features of these.
We offer two styles:One for We-no-nah floor mounted seats and one for We-no-nah hung web or cane seats. Both models clamp to the seat frame.
Footbrace Paddling is more efficient and comfortable if you have a footbrace. A center brace is standard on composite solo canoes, and a stern footbrace is standard on composite tandem hulls 17'6" or longer. (See individual canoes to clarify whether a footbrace is standard.)
Our newly redesigned footbrace is easy to use. Adjustments are made by a simple turn of the knob. No more fumbling with thumbscrews and wing nuts. The crossbar has unlimited adjustability to fit your legs perfectly and slides smoothly into place for quick fine-tuning.
Kevlar® Skid Plates While Royalex canoes are durable, they may be subjected to extreme uses where heavy, sharp impacts occur. Kevlar Skid Plates on the bow and stern of a Royalex canoe can often be used to repair damage, or it can be applied before to give added defense. Our Skid Plate Kit for Royalex canoes can be purchased later and installed by you, or it can be applied at the factory.
